Tonight I watched the town hall meeting of the candidates. Only I did not listen to John McCain, I tuned in only for the second half with Obama center stage. My intent was to hear his responses to the questions without the filter of the Senators' answers. What I heard was what I have been hearing for almost 2 years; the smoothest most professionally presented rhetoric spiced with well-turned phrases all delivered on a platform of megalomanic certainty that he is the chosen one and the way. I heard how bad things are in our country, how he will bring us back from the teetering edge of oblivion, and save us all from the crushing iron fist of the heartless and broken system we call America. I heard all of this, with the primary subject being national service.
What thrilled me most of all was that I heard he would do it without creating a bureaucracy to manage it. Without creating a draft to fill military needs. I heard how he is going to enlist thousands, nay hundreds of thousands of new volunteers to fill the ranks of humanitarian organizations; of the Red Cross, of FEMA, CARE, etc. I am quite certain I heard how BHO is going to do it all and save our planet at the same time. The answer is obvious, INSPIRATION!
It seemed to me that every time there was a question that required an answer describing the system Obama would use to push people into lines of service work that have both limited appeal and often even more limited income potential, he falls back on "Inspiration". Asked "Won't that kind of manpower require a draft to fill armed forces needs?" Not in Obamaland, we just inspire them. Asked, "what kind of incentives will you use to attract Peace Corp volunteers?” In Obamaland, you will hear inspirational statements like "When I was working with the neighborhoods in Chicago I was making only $12,000.00 a year...plus car expenses!" Hell! Sign me up! I feel giddier than an anchorman doing his first Obama press conference.
I will sleep better tonight knowing there is a chance my country could end up in the hands of a man who is convinced he can literally "Will" whatever is needed to achieve his end. Putin doesn't stand a chance with this guy.
